How has your business changed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic? In the midst of launching our new website, I had to stop and re-work many of the images and descriptions of how business can be handled in professional ways using the newly recommended health and safety guidelines. As I was doing that for my own business, I had a lightbulb moment! I turned that idea into helping clients in various industries by providing insight into what their respective industries may be like moving forward, and how to equip them with resources to re-train employees to meet their customers’ needs. The ultimate goal is so each will be comfortable and confident to continue to transact business.
What advice can you offer other etiquette consultants whose jobs were primarily face-to-face, and now must conduct business virtually? Do not get discouraged! Regardless of how business is conducted, face-to-face or virtually, the goal of professionals in our industry is to listen to, learn about, and then help our clients shape their brand in the best of ways through training all to embody respect through every dimension of their business. The smallest changes can often have the most impactful results.
What tools or resources have been most helpful to you? I’ve gone back to the basics and have taken the time to use mind mapping and SWOT analysis to reflect on how my business can adapt. In addition, I’ve definitely become more productive using upgraded technology because I have taken the time to train on it. Industries are rapidly changing, adapting, and we must, too, if we are to continue to meet the needs of our clients.
How has your investment in becoming an Intercultural Etiquette and Protocol Trainer affected your career and consulting opportunities? Doors have been opened, both real and virtually, because of the unique perspectives that professionals in our industry bring to the table. Our ability to see through business inhibitors and provide positive change suggestions in relatable and relevant ways to our clients is a superpower. The clients that have protocol and etiquette experts as part of their teams are the businesses that will adapt and thrive. I just love seeing the results, one person at time, but it is the ripple effect on an entire company that is profound.
